over the past few months, i learnt that i shouldn't be skeptical, critical and pessimistic as i was. something that means nothing to you, prolly means the world to another. and who is anyone to insist that your ambitions are more worthy than someone else's? besides, like i said, it isn't all about being able to make it; sometimes simply trying is worth celebrating.
today's behind-the-scenes experience was really an eye-opener! oh gurmit is indeed a funnyman in real life, and hady is reallyreally good-looking now hahaha. pau was just as smitten! :p
doing readings for the first time since the semester ended, and my stamina is running so low. yes, summer school does give assignments (x well there's no way i can prepare myself mentally for what's to come.
been listening to this a lot. love the lyrics.
It takes a crane to build a crane It takes two floors to make a story It takes an egg to make a hen It takes a hen to make an egg There is no end to what I'm saying
It takes a thought to make a word And it takes some words to make an action It takes some work to make it work It takes some good to make it hurt It takes some bad for satisfaction
La la la la la la la life is wonderful Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful Al la la la la
It takes a night to make it dawn And it takes a day to make you yawn brother And it takes some old to make you young It takes some cold to know the sun It takes the one to have the other
And it takes no time to fall in love But it takes you years to know what love is It takes some fears to make you trust It takes those tears to make it rust It takes the dust to have it polished
Ha la la la la la la life is wonderful Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle Ah la la la la la la life is so full of Ah la la la la la la life is so rough Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle Ah la la la la la la life is our love Ah la la la la la
It takes some silence to make sound It takes a loss before you found it And it takes a road to go nowhere It takes a toll to make you care It takes a hole to see a mountain
i concluded that japanese babies are the cutest asian babies! :D asian because it's a little unfair to compare them with the blonde hair and blue eyes of caucasians. anyway i managed to get some insights of jap baby tantrums- standing motionless amidst crowds, sitting quietly at the corner of staircases, lying down flat on their blacks in the middle of nowhere. how can anything be more adorable than that :) really, i just loove these lucky little creatures - some in their ralph lauren tees and adidas sandals - to bits!
sitting in front of the computer the entire afternoon once again reminded me how hot and humid singapore is. japan is now rather sunny with chilly winds, which was fine with me, except when the incessant rain on day 2 kinda killed much of the mood at universal studios. but thankfully it didn't rain for the rest of the trip.
osaka and tokyo are both awesome cities, but it is nagoya that left the deepest impression on me. our tour guide had so many interesting stories to tell! apart from the better-known fact that nagoya is where toyota's headquarters are situated, it was said that the coke float and its variants originated from this city as well. also, she told us that the people of nagoya are really thrifty people in the sense that they - i quote - sheng xiao qian, hua da qian. a loose translation would be "save the small money, spend the big money". for instance, a woman would cycle a few miles to a market every day to buy vegetables that cost 10 yen less, just so that she can save up to buy a designer bag. i think that's pretty cool :) many a drop makes an ocean, see?
this leads us to the fact that the japanese put a lot of emphasis on quality, hence their love for designer goods. it's quite apparent: old aunties reportedly even carry louis vuitton bags to the wet market. according to the tour guide, japanese girls came up with a 'designer goods hierarchy': with their first paycheck they'd get burberry blue label, then they would aim for coach or gucci, followed by LV, and finally hermes :) sure sounds like a good plan haha.
the land of the hello kitty would definitely be a place that i would love to visit again if given the opportunity. perhaps make a trip to hokkaido for some skiing, honeydew and scallops :)
first of all, im slightly amused to see my entire blogger homepage in japanese. haha :)
osaka never seems to stop raining. it started pouring the moment we arrived at universal studios this morning, and i think it's still drizzling now. sigh. haven't really had a productive first 48hrs since i arrived, but couldn't be helped cos the flight here took an entire day to begin with. im so tired. my feet are aching, my skin is dry, my eyebags are popping out. besides, travelling with my folks always always throws up some really exasperating issues. but im in no mood for drama right now. told myself im out there to have fun and i'll continue to do so.
anyway, for once in my life i wish i speak shockingly fluent japanese. the locals speak at bullet-train speed. and not many understand english. some attempt a little mandarin, which i thought was impressive. oh yes the toilets here are amazing! even at the most ulu areas. japan truly lives up to its reputation. ah what else, i can't think straight now man after only 5hrs of sleep yest =/ oh yarh i just had the yummiest ramen EVER! it's made with pork-rib soup i think. you can smell it from a mile away. for 600 yen, it's a really great deal. ahhh. day 1 and the food is already making me go weak in my knees. i have a feeling im just gona eat till i drop.
